Li Chen’s Revenge (The Scorned Son-in-law)

Li Chens POV

”Get out, Li! ” Xia yelled at me, and I just stared at her. Every time, she never failed to make me feel worthless, and sometimes I wonder why I even agreed to marry her just so she could keep her inheritance.

I sighed and said, ”Xia, can we just talk this over? Can we? ”

”No! I have nothing else to say to you. Look, I do not want to yell out so loudly, but before I go to the bathroom and come back out, I need you gone. I never loved you from the beginning, and Im not about to start now, ” Xia let out, with disgust written all over her face.

I knew that our marriage was on a contract basis and she and her family had been treating me like dirt ever since, but I had nowhere else to go. I could probably meet up with Jay and Joe.

”Alright, you don have to do any of that. ”

”Go before I call my mother, ” she said, and I stared at her long and hard. I was going to make sure that she ate her words when the time came. I picked up my bag that contained my few clothes and left Xias house, and on the way out, I heard her call out, ”Ill make sure to send the divorce papers to Jays house since thats the only place you can go. ”

Her words were laced with disgust, and it further shattered my ego. I didn have any cab money, so going to Jays home was going to be a long walk. By the time I got to Jays house, it was already dark and I was tired and hungry. Just as I was about to enter the street that led to Jays house, I bumped into someone and my bag fell from my hand.

”Oh God, I am so sorry. I didn mean to, ” I heard the voice say, and it was the most amazing voice I had ever heard, and when she lifted her head to hand me my bag and looked at me. She was so beautiful.

I snapped back to reality, ”No, it is okay. It was a mistake and you probably didn even mean it, ” I smiled at her with my weary face and stretched out my hands. ”

”Hi, I am Li Chen, ”

She stared at my hand and then at me with her brown eyes that had a slight glint to them.

”My name is Hwa Li. ”

We both shook each others hands, and I didn feel like letting go until she tried to wiggle herself free from my grasp.

”Uh, I am so sorry. ” I let go of her hand and held my bag tightly, and then I cleared my throat lightly.

”Im just going to go. ”

I shifted from where I stood and had taken like four steps when she called out from behind.

”Chen, ” she called out, and a light smirk graced my lips, and I straightened up before turning back to her.

”Yeah? ”

She took steps and drew closer until she closed the distance between us. ”Here is my card. Give me a call sometime. ” And with that, she left.

All through my remaining walk to Jays house, I kept on smiling like a girl. I couldn help it. When I arrived at Lings Villa, I knocked lightly on the gate, and the security guard looked through it and saw that I was the one standing there before he opened the gate for me.

The guard said, ”Young Master Chen, ” and I smiled lightly at him.

”Shin, how are you? ”

”Im doing okay, Young Master. ”

”Okay, that is good. What about your Masters? ”

”They are both inside, ” Shin said, and I nodded at him. ”Okay, have a good night, sir. ”

Shin was a good man and I guess he was in the same situation as I was – we were both penniless and needed to work extra hard, but he was lucky that he had a job as a security guard, whereas I had none. I knocked on the large wooden door and waited for a response. Normally Id appreciate the beauty of the villa, but I just wasn in the mood today.

”Yes, who is… ” I heard Joe say on the other side of the door before he fully opened the door and saw me. ”Li! I was just thinking about you, man. ”

”Yeah, right. Lie to me all you want. ” I giggled at his statement.

”No, man, I wasn . Come on in, ” Joe said, leading the way to the sitting room that I was already familiar with, but this time, I appreciated every piece of furniture in the sitting room.

”Li! ” I heard Mrs. Ling call out to me as she broke into a smile.

”Mrs. Ling, I am so delighted to see you. ”

”Tsk, this child! How many times will I tell you to call me mother, hmmm? ” Mrs. Ling queried and I just stood there like a little child with a smile on my face being scolded. I could see Jay and Joe standing behind her snickering and I gave them my evil gaze, which did nothing but make matters worse.

”I promise to change that, Mrs. Ling. ”

When I realized my mistake and looked at her, she gave me a look that meant that she was serious, ”I mean, mother. ”

”Now that is better. Joe! ” ”Jay! Come on, lets eat dinner, ” Mrs. Ling said as she walked past me and into the dining room, lightly patting my back. She looked younger every day.

”Li, my man, ” Jay let out as he gave me a light hug and Joe followed suit. This bunch annoyed the hell out of me, but they were the only friends that I had.

”I need to talk to you both right now, ” I let out, trying to lead them out of the sitting room into their lobby.

”What is it? ” Jay asked.

”What about your wife? She let you come out this late? ” Joe asked, with curiosity written all over his face.

”That isn even funny. ” I wasn even ready to think about Xia.

”Come on, tell us, ” they said simultaneously.

”Not here, ” I left the sitting room and went out to the patio that faced the cherry blossom tree that was blooming. A sigh escaped my lips as I didn even know where to start.

”Spill it… ”

”Look, Xia sent me out of the house and promised to send me the divorce papers so Id sign them and Im going to sign them, ” I told them in a nutshell.

”See, I told you from the very beginning that this was so wrong to start with, Li. I warned you, but you didn listen, ” Joe said.

”I didn see anything wrong then, but now, she is a witch! ” I semi-yelled.

”So, why the sudden change of heart? ” Jay asked me, and I began to wonder if they were indirectly making fun of me.

”Xia made me marry her because of her fathers inheritance. She made a drunk me sign those papers and I don even know why I even put up with her in the first place. ”

Joe released a sigh and folded his arms, and threw a side glance at his brother before looking at me, ”So, what next? ”

”Nothing; Im just going to sign the papers when she sends them here because she knows that I will be here by tomorrow, ”

”Witch! ” Jay scoffed.

”I couldn agree more, but I have to ask you guys for a favor, ”

”Okay, what is it? ” Joe asked, and his left eyebrow quirked up in a questioning manner.

”Do you think that I could stay here for the meantime? ”

Joe scoffed lightly, ”You really do not need to ask that. Of course, you can stay. Our mother loved having you here and so do we. ”

”Thank you so much! At least I can figure out my life from here. That reminds me, I bumped into a pretty lady on my way here and she was utterly beautiful, ” I said dreamily, which earned me some glares from the twins, and I scoffed loudly and threw my hands up in surrender.

”Li, you are about to get out of a mess called marriage with Xia and you
e already trying to get into another one? Dude, drop it, ”

”But… ”

”But nothing, Li, ” Jay said.

”Boys!! You three should get in here and lets have dinner. Im famished, ” Mrs. Ling yelled from within the house. I glanced at the twins and was about to make my way into the house because I was indeed very hungry when my phone rang out loud and we all stopped in our tracks and stared at each other before their gaze finally settled on me. I took out my phone from my trouser pockets and stared at the caller ID; it was no one other than my ex-wifes mother–Mrs. Wen!

I picked it up, ”Hello, Mrs. Wen, ”
