The girls continued with their tasks oblivious that one of them was being targeted.

Feng Wu went to the chief’s house.
A lot of other people were also in line waiting for a task from him as well.
She waited in line behind 5 others.

“Dear village chief, is there anything I can do for you?” asked a handsome young man in a rookie uniform.
His voice was respectful and his face was composed to look flattering.

The old chief raised his head up and spoke.
“Young man, my pigpen needs to be cleaned, but my wife and I are too old to do the heavy labor.
I can only trouble you for your assistance.”

The rookie’s mouth twitched.
He cursed under his breath and touched his nose as he agreed and left.

There were many assignments to be found in the village, however there was a daily maximum.
For example, Peter from the west end of the village, only allowed 3 repeats from a person per day.
That is to say you couldn’t indefinitely loop through them for experience points; tasks like running errands and delivering messages had a daily limit per person.

The only place without a limit was the chief’s house, which was why it was so popular, thus the long line.
His assignments were simple but troublesome.
They were generic home chores such as cleaning out the chicken coop and pigpen, or washing and drying clothes, cutting wood for fuel, or helping to find lost things like cats and dogs or his grandson.

Don’t look down on it just because it was virtual, the feel is just like in real life.
The pain was 100% genuine.

Washing, cleaning, cooking.
All these things had to be done, and done well, by the individual.
A poorly executed task would not recieve any points.

This made it hard to leave Novice village.
Most who came to the village were rich ladies or masters of noble houses.
How would these people know how to accomplish such mundane tasks satisfactorily? The success rate was always low to start, but would gradually improve as they got better at the chores.

After the hapless man assigned to clean the pigpen walked away another replaced him and was asked to clean the chicken coop.
A third… now a fourth…

Feng Wu was next.
She took advantage of the wait and surveyed the chief’s home.
It looked like an ordinary farm yard, though better than the other houses in Novice village it still had a rustic air.
It was no match for city houses.
In fact it resembled the house Feng Wu lived in with Auntie Lian.

Feng Wu used a probing technique when she saw the big lady nearby.
The probe told her the woman was the chief’s wife and she was very sad.
Strangely enough no one else took notice of her.

Feng Wu looked forward and saw there was still one more person in front of her.
She pursed her lips and decided to walk over to woman.
She stared at the woman for a moment before asking, “Do you need help?”

Feng Wu thought the lady looked annoyed so maybe she needed help.

The woman’s entire face lit up at Feng Wu’s question.
“I need help! I need so much help! My wonderful new clothes have been stolen by a naughty fox outside the village! Will you get my clothes back for me?!”

A voice rang in Feng Wu’s ear when the chief’s wife asked.

Dear Adventurer, the chief’s wife asks you to find her new clothes that were stolen by the fox.
Do you accept?

“Accept.” Anna had told her about this so Feng Wu wasn’t surprised.
She calmly accepted the task.

Feng Wu had failed to notice the eyes that followed her as she moved toward the chief’s wife.

“What’s the matter with that girl? She dared take that crazy task?”

“Must be a newbie.
They don’t know better and they always end up taking it.
If I hadn’t known I would have taken the bait.
Don’t know how many adventurers the chief’s wife fooled.”

“So pitiful.
It’s gonna be at least 3 days before she can level up.”

The people in line stared at Feng Wu with pity.
Feng Wu had just entered the village so naturally she didn’t know how impossible the task was.
Other newcomers before had accepted the task only to find it was impossible to complete.

This task, 10 people had even resorted to forming a team just to complete it.
They ran to the fox’s den a bunch of times.
Never mind the clothes, they couldn’t even get fox fur.

The virtual world had a setting that forced people to commit to a task for 3 days; you couldn’t abandon it until time expired.
The request from the chief’s wife was even worse because you were locked in and not allowed to accept any new tasks until it was either completed or the time ran out.

Those who found out the hard way could only bemoan their bad luck.
Could you cheat anymore than this? Seriously?!

After so many seniors failed, no one dared approach the wife.
Everyone had been warned.
As a result the lady could only sit there and sigh.

Who would have thought that today, of all days, a dark-haired cutie would be foolish enough to accept the task? If she could complete it, then they were willing to let her use their heads as a stool.

After accepting the task Feng Wu saw a line of tiny writing in her vision.

Dear Adventurer, you can not accept any new tasks.
Current task time limit: none.
If you wish to abandon this task please submit an application after three days.

Feng Wu read it then walked out of the village to search for the fox ’s den.
